Montessori Model United Nations

Montessori Model United Nations (MMUN) began in 2006 by Judith Cunningham, a Montessori teacher. MMUN provides a Model UN experience for 9 - to 15-year-olds which emphasizes Montessori core values such as inclusion, collaboration, and consensus. The procedures used at MMUN conferences closely model the procedures used by the actual United Nations, and serve to empower youth to recognize their

power to make positive changes in the world, while building a sense of global community and compassion. At the conference, students work in committees which are based on the committees in the United Nations, itself, though the committee work is done in conference rooms once all the delegates have assembled, the Closing Ceremony is traditionally held on the floor of the UN General Assembly!

MMUN 2024 was a huge success for our students! One of our 8th years was elected to speak at the Closing Ceremony. Read the blog post about the experience, written in her own words.

“Preventing conflicts is the work of politics; establishing peace is the work of education.”

- Maria Montessori, Education and Peace

“Children acquire knowledge through experience in the environment.”

- Dr. Montessori

If you think your child would thrive in a Montessori environment, give us a call or schedule a tour online. We would love for you to visit our school and learn more.
